Music Makers has been running courses for 14 years and many students (and most of the staff!) have returned year after year which reassures us that the courses are working as an enjoyable and rewarding musical and social venture for all concerned.

Young musicians from the age of 5 to 18 work alongside, and are guided by, a team of experienced and dedicated music staff. Their aim is to share their enthusiasm for making and performing music, in a stimulating and friendly environment, whilst ensuring that each student fulfils their potential in the time available.

The courses are run on a three-tier system:

Juniors age 5 - 6

Intermediates age 7 -10

Seniors age 8 - 18 (Grades 2 to 8+)

JUNIORS
Age 5 - 6

10am to 4pm

This course is suitable for children with no previous musical experience as well as those who are already learning to play an instrument. A mixture of singing, recorder playing, group instrumental work and percussion combined with listening, composing and performing helps to develop aural and rhythmic awareness. Music reading abilities will be developed during the week as well as experience in following a conductor in both vocal and instrumental rehearsals. Each day a different family of instruments will visit from the Senior course, giving the children a chance to learn about and hear the instruments of the orchestra. The emphasis is on fun, with music related games and activities helping to stimulate an interest in instrumental music making. There will be a concert featuring some of the week's work at 3pm on the final day.

INTERMEDIATES
Age 7 - 10

10am to 4pm

This course is suitable for young instrumentalists in their first years of playing as well as children who have not yet started an instrument. A variety of musical activities will include instrumental work in groups, singing, recorder playing and percussion featuring a wide range of styles from classical to jazz. The reading of musical notation, aural and rhythmic awareness and performing arts skills will all be developed in an enjoyable way during the week. There will also be demonstrations of orchestral and band instruments for those who have not yet chosen their future instrument. The Intermediates will perform several instrumental pieces and choreographed songs in their concert at 3pm on the final day.
